MILLIGAN COLLEGE, Tenn. (Oct. 17, 2016) — The Milligan College men’s basketball was selected to finish sixth in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, according to the preseason coaches’ poll.
Milligan received a total of 59 votes, taking sixth behind Union (114), Bluefield (104), Tennessee Wesleyan (100), Reinhardt (81) and Bryan (65). Union, being the defending regular season champion, received six first place votes, and is the strong favorite going into the 2016-17 season.
“Being picked is where we anticipated being chosen with such a young team,” Head Coach Bill Robinson said. “I think we can be better than that by the end of the season but we have a long way to go. And pre-season polls really don’t mean anything. Replacing two All-Conference players is never easy but even harder when you only have one player who has been in the program for more than a year. I really like my guys and we are excited about starting the season next week.”
The Buffs finished 16-11 last year, 10-8 in conference play, and are looking to improve on last year’s successes with a relatively young team. While losing Kurt Brooks and Julian Bailey, the Buffs are led this season by junior David Casaday and sophomore Will Buckner, who look to continue the successes they have seen early in their young careers.
Milligan will open the 2016-17 season on the road on Thursday, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m. against University of the Cumberlands. The Buffs first home game is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m. as they host Alice Lloyd College.
