Leaders from across VA announce effort to boost tourism in SWVA

SOUTHWEST VA (WJHL)- Leaders from across  Virginia gathered Tuesday to launch a new brand, in hopes of drawing in more tourists and boosting the Southwest Virginia region’s economy.

Rita McClenny, President and CEO of Virginia Tourism Corporation announced with other leaders “A Different Side of Virginia” as a marketing brand for the state.

She said the counties can now join together in marketing what makes their communities unlike any other in the nation.

“Localities can now join together in marketing their assets to the world and to visitors across the United States of America to come to Southwest Virginia and enjoy all of the multiple assets whether it’s history, outdoor, music,” McClenny said.

“We hope it creates jobs here, we hope it brings tourists here, we hope those tourists come and decide they want to buy, move here or buy a second house here, there’s all kinds of possibilities cause once we get them here, once we get tourists here, we have so many opportunities,” Virginia Delegate Terry Kilgore said.

The highlights of each county will be listed on Virginia tourism’s website.
