Search begins for new Johnson City Schools superintendent

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – The Johnson City Board of Education is starting their search for a new school superintendent.

Current Superintendent Richard Bales announced back in August that he would be retiring on June 30, 2017.

According to a Johnson City Schools news release, Dr. Tammy Grissom, executive director of the Tennessee School Boards Association, will be leading groups in discussions aimed at determining the views and challenges of the school system and the superintendent position.

Five meetings have been scheduled for Nov. 17 and 18 at Johnson City Schools Central Office, 100 E. Maple St.

On Nov. 17:

  • 2 p.m.- Classified employees
  • 3 p.m.- Central office staff, supervisors and principals
  • 4 p.m.- Teachers
  • 6 p.m.- Community forum

On Nov. 18:

  • 8 a.m.- City Commission, business/community leaders and school board members
