KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) – Police in Kingsport say a man is was arrested Sunday afternoon after he became “combative” with staff members at Holston Valley Medical Center.
The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. inside the medical center’s emergency room.
When police arrived at the hospital, a nurse told officers that 39-year-old Daniel Jennings was disruptive and uncooperative.
Jennings was expected to be discharged after the nurse was able to obtain a urine sample. The nurse told police when she entered the room to collect the sample, Jennings allegedly raised both fists and threaten to assault her. Hospital personnel and security were called to assist.
Once an officer from KPD arrived, Jennings allegedly clinched his fists, began yelling and cursing and struggle with the police officer who tried to arrest him.
Police say during the struggle, Jennings gained control of a Taser and allegedly began waving it around in a threatening manner in the direct of six different people in the room.
According to KPD, the police office and the security guards were able to gain control of the Taser and arrest Jennings.
Jennings is charged with six counts of aggravated assault and resisting arrest. After he was discharged from the hospital he was eventually taken to the Sullivan County Jail in Blountville for confinement — pending an arraignment hearing.
