VSP canine unit searches Marion Senior High School after staff find bomb threat message Friday


MARION, VA (WJHL) — Interim Superintendent for Smyth County Schools, Dr. Dennis Carter, and the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office say there was a bomb threat at Marion Senior High School on Friday.

Carter said on Friday, October 14 staff found a message indicating a threat of a bomb on school property. Students and staff evacuated the building so Virginia State Police could search school property with a canine unit. VSP said they did not find anything and allowed students and staff to re-enter the building.

Carter said that after further investigation, police found a threat of violence that was dated for Monday, October 17th. He added school administrators take all threats seriously.

Smyth County Sheriff B. C. “Chip” Shuler said he asks that if students see a threat to report it.
