FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WJHL)- A food truck owner from the Tri-Cities region has been in North Carolina since last week, as many communities are still dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.
Joey Rusek, Owner of Backdraft BBQ out of Gate City, Virginia said he has been stationed in Fayetteville, working to prepare hot meals for those in need.
Rusek said he was deployed along with dozens of other volunteers as part of Operation BBQ Relief, a disaster response organization helping to provide meals to displaced families and emergency personnel.
Rusek said volunteers are preparing meals in Fayetteville that are then delivered twice a day to Lumberton, a community devastated by flooding.
By the end of the day on Saturday, Rusek said it is possible they will have already served 90,000 meals.
