JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – 10-year-old Ben Boone of Johnson City was diagnosed with a brain tumor, doctors say it is cancerous but they’ve removed it.
Ben’s tumor is staged at zero which is a good sign, doctors were able to remove it before it grew in size. His family is on their way home to Johnson City for a break before he goes back for treatment at St. Jude’s in Memphis.
“They are starting proton beam therapy to radiate his brain and spine. This type of tumor has the capacity to seed and spread throughout the spine so they want to make sure that that doesn’t happen,” his mother Deanna Boone said.
Ben tells News Channel 11 he’s excited to see his school friends but he’s also thrilled to see his furry friends at home.
“Play around with the dogs also, we have two dogs, we have one named Sweetie Pie which is a miniature poodle and we have one named Irish which is a girl german shepherd,” Ben Boone said.
The Boone family hopes this radiation and chemo will prevent the cancerous cells from spreading.
