JONESBOROUGH, TN (WJHL) – If you live in the town of Jonesborough you may be wondering about a postcard recently mailed to you from the town.
The postcard says Jonesborough water exceeded the maximum contaminant level for a specific acid and some people who drink water containing these types of acids in excess over many years may have an increased risk of cancer.
But Jonesborough Town Administrator Bob Browning said the state required sending the post cards out despite much lower levels in the most recent test.
“They were the lowest test that we’ve ever had period. So we are really making serious progress with it and we hope that it’s not going to be an issue again,” Browning said.
He said even with the higher level, it would take drinking two liters of the water every day for 70 years to have a one in 10,000 chance of it generating cancer.
