Local veterans welcomed home from weekend trip to D.C.

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – It was a special night for some of our local veterans returning home from a weekend in the nation’s capitol.

20 local veterans were met my family and friends after a three day trip exploring DC’s historic war monuments courtesy of the honor flight organization of Northeast Tennessee. An all expense paid trip offered to our veterans twice a year–they even had a special motorcycle escort throughout the trip. veterans

Veterans we spoke with describe how the voyage touched their hearts.

“It made me cry, some of them, especially the tomb of the unknown soldiers, we had some guard, changing of the guards, that was a beautiful ceremony,” Veteran Charles McConnell said.

An experience that some will never forget.

“The trip was wonderful and educational, the most wonderful, educational, three days in my entire life,” Veteran Lacy Love said.

This is our region’s 9th trip and the next one will be offered in April. Visit their website for more information.
