JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – Families and children lined the Legion Street pool this afternoon for the Johnson City Police Department’s annual Say Yes to Fishing Say No to Drugs Fishout.
On Friday, organizers dumped 2,000 rainbow trout into the pool.
Organizers say they hoped to have over one thousand kids show up.
“Our thought is a lot of kids get in trouble because they don’t have something to do or ‘I’m bored, I’m going to do something I’m bored and I want to do something,’” said Sgt. Terry Hardin with the Johnson City Police Department. “Well let’s find them something positive to do.”
Sunday, the community can fish for the remaining trout from noon until 5 p.m.
A donation of $10 dollars will go to the Fishout program.
