Community organizations come together to support homeless and at risk veterans

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – The VA and several community organizations came together Friday afternoon to support homeless and at-risk veterans.

The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans Stand Down marked its fourth year in Johnson City.

The event brought veterans resources, like health care, food, and backpacks with supplies for winter. It also featured a job fair for veterans in need of employment.

“The vets that are on the street, the vets that are in desperate need of help, they need to know that we are here to support them and help them and to make their day a little bit better,” said Doug Murray with the Appalachian Regional Coalition on Homelessness.

Organizers expected between one hundred fifty and two hundred people to show up.
