MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WJHL) – News Channel 11’s Jordan Moore and Chris Greer made their way to coast Thursday to assist in coverage of Hurricane Matthew in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
When they arrived, the beach and Ocean Drive — an area that during peak tourist season is bustling with people — but on Thursday night, it resembled that of a ghost town, as Hurricane Matthew made its way up to coast toward the Palmetto State.
Jordan and Chris were able to track down one couple — Mark and Heather Jernigan who had come to Myrtle Beach for their honeymoon from West Virginia and said they would be cutting their trip short.
“We figured we would just give it a try because we haven’t been to the beach in a long time and we wanted to enjoy it,” Heather Jernigan said.
“I have had experience with hurricanes, so I know that it’s not something I want to go through if I don’t live here,” Mark Jernigan said.
Continuing along Ocean Drive, Jordan and Chris came across one business, Kokomos, boarding up before the storm.
The owner said he’s lived through hurricanes before and wanted to take every precaution possible.
