Two-vehicle crash reported on Mary Patton Highway in Carter Co., drivers asked to avoid area

ELIZABETHTON, TN (WJHL) – Carter County dispatchers are asking drivers to avoid Mary Patton Highway near Gap Creek Road following a crash this evening.

According to Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers on-scene, a blue SUV traveling west on Gap Creek Road pulled out in front of a tractor trailer traveling north on State Route 362/Mary Patton Highway just after 5 p.m.

THP said the tractor trailer attempted to not hit the SUV, but did hit the vehicle and the tractor trailer overturned.

Around 25 tons of wood chips were dumped onto the highway.

The driver of the SUB was injured and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Mary Patton Highway was closed from Old Gap Creek Road to Cash Hollow Road.

A tractor trailer reportedly crashed, turned over and is now blocking the road.

Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
