JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – Shriners Hospitals for Children Orthopaedics Clinic at Niswonger Children’s Hospital officially opened Thursday, making it the first Shriners clinic of its kind.
Mountain States Health Alliance officials announced the new partnership between Shriners Hospitals for Children- Greeneville, which will bring pediatric orthopaedic care services to the children’s hospital.
Niswonger Children’s Hospital already has partnerships with organizations such as St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
“Like Shriners, Niswonger Children’s Hospital strives to provide the highest level of care to patients at a location that is convenient and close to home,” Lisa Carter, CEO of Niswonger Children’s Hospital, said. “We are excited about this partnership, which brings the first pediatric orthopaedist to our region and will help us better serve our current patients and those who might need these types of services in the future. We are fortunate to be able to help fill this gap in care for our young patients.”
The closest Shriners hospital to our area previously was two hours away in South Carolina at Greenville Shriners Hospital. The addition of the clinic at the children’s hospital will give local families access to a specially trained pediatric orthopaedist.
“What makes this clinic special is that it is the first in the system to operate daily outside of our four walls,” Randy Romberger, administrator of Greenville Shriners Hospital, said. “We believe this clinic will improve access to our services for families in Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia and the surrounding region. Ensuring that care is readily available for those in need is the mission that Shriners Hospitals for Children was founded upon.”
The Shriners Hospitals for Children Orthopaedics Clinic at Niswonger Children’s Hospital is now accepting new patients.
