East Tennessee deputy charged in Asheville with soliciting a child by computer

ASHEVILLE, NC (WJHL) – Police in western North Carolina say an east Tennessee deputy was arrested in a recent internet crimes against children operation.

Officers arrested James Eugene Patty Jr., 48 of Maryville, TN, was arrested for soliciting a child by computer. Investigators say Patty traveled from his home in Maryville, TN to Asheville with the intent of have sex with a minor girl.

But he was taken into custody shortly after arriving in Asheville before making any contact with a minor.

Patty is currently being held at the Buncombe County Detention Center under a $50,000 bond.

At the time of his arrest, Patty was serving as a sheriff’s deputy for the Blount County Sheriff’s Office in east Tennessee.
