KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Knoxville will be the production site of another film.
“Road Less Traveled” will star country singer Lauren Alaina and is based off of her single with the same name. Alaina became well-known on the TV competition “American Idol.” Charlene Tilton, from the TV show “Dallas,” will also star in the upcoming film.
One of the film’s executive producers Kristofer McNeeley says filming in Tennessee is great.
“As a boy growing up in Oklahoma, country music and it’s roots in Tennessee were important influences for me. We are thrilled to be here in Knoxville making our first film, and to be collaborating with Lauren and Universal Music Group Nashville,” said McNeeley toBillboard. “Hopefully this is just the beginning of a long relationship in the state bringing Tennessee and country music to millions of fans worldwide through film.”
The film will tell the story of Alaina’s character, Charlotte, who is trying to balance her personal life and her songwriting career in Los Angeles, according to Billboard. She returns to her hometown in Tennessee and starts to have doubts about her life choices.
Alaina told Billboard, “I am so excited to be doing a movie. This is a whole new world for me. I’m learning so much every day. We have such an awesome cast and crew and I can’t wait for everyone to see this new side of me.”
“This city has worked hard to establish itself as a competitive option for film production in the south and attracting projects like this is exactly what we had in mind,” said McNeeley.
Knoxville was the site of another film earlier this year. “Dog Years” stars Burt Reynolds, ABC’s “Modern Family” star Ariel Winter and Chevy Chase.
