SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Oct. 5, 2016) – For the third time this season, ETSU men’s soccer goalkeeper Jonny Sutherland (Chester, U.K.) has been recognized by the Southern Conference. This time he earned September SoCon Player of the Month, which was announced by the league office Wednesday.
The sophomore goalkeeper started in six matches and accumulated 587:28 minutes in the month. He posted four shutouts including the biggest win in ETSU history over then No. 1 North Carolina, 1-0. During the month, Sutherland did not allow a goal in regulation, which ended in the 1-0 loss at Wofford on Tuesday at 704:47 minutes.
However, the Chester, U.K. native tallied 23 saves and a save percentage of .920 and led the Bucs to a 3-2-1 record in the six-game span. He is currently tied for first in shutouts (5), second in overall save percentage (.762) and goals against average (0.95) and fourth in total saves (32) in the SoCon.
ETSU will continue its road conference schedule with a trip to UNCG. The match is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8 at UNCG Soccer Stadium
