WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – A Washington County, Tennessee, judge has dismissed the contempt of court case against one of the more than dozen domestic violence victims we highlighted in our Community Watchdog investigation last month.
Sessions Court Judge Don Arnold dismissed the contempt charge last week, according to court records. The woman’s attorney, Bill McManus, previously raised concerns with us about the jailing of victims.
Our investigation revealed the grant Washington County uses to prosecute domestic violence cases prohibits prosecutors from forcing victims to testify. After we uncovered that stipulation, the state agency that oversees the grant told us the First Judicial District Attorney’s Office was now well aware of the grant conditions and that the agency felt comfortable about the process moving forward.
