It can get a little confusing, especially when the Second Continental Congress complains that King George III “has excited domestic insurrections amongst us.” Really? What insurrections? And who were the participants? Could Thomas Jefferson and Company have been referring to slaves? Historian Robert Parkinson of Binghamton University tells us all about it.
