Local churches package veggies for Second Harvest Food Bank

KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) – Churches around the region are working together to help feed the hungry in our region.

Cassidy United Methodist in Kingsport along with Salem United Methodist and the Society of St. Andrew helped package around two to three thousand pounds of green beans today. Second Harvest Food Bank is coming to pick up the ten pound bags of veggies and they’ll distribute them to those in need.

“I believe that the church is the strongest when it goes outside the wall of our church and out into our communities. There’s a lot of great conversation and fellowship that happens as the beans are bagged up and people work together,” Pastor Tom Hancock of Cassidy United Methodist Church said.

Hancock said he hopes to continue the partnership for years to come.
