ERWIN, TN (WJHL) – Kristen Allen has teaching in her blood. She’s a third-generation educator. Her grandmother was a teacher in Sullivan County. Her mother spent her career as a high school teacher at Unicoi County High School.
Now she’s making her mark as a 2nd grade teacher at Rock Creek Elementary in Erwin. She teaches social studies and a little bit of science but her specialty is reading and language arts.
She’s been teaching for 10 years and was currently selected as a teacher leader for the entire district.
Allen lets the students pick a special reward for reaching goals and a way to inspire their young minds
“Every child learns at his or her own pace in their own ways. It’s really key that you have to find what they are interested in. You’ve got to go from there. Find those interests, find what their strengths are and encourage them,” said Allen.
In addition to her work as a teacher she’s involved as a member of the PTO and volunteers in many other activities for the school. Congratulations to Kristen
Allen is this week’s Educator of the Week.
