Greene Co. teen pleads guilty in shooting death of father

GREENE COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – A Greene County teen charged with killing his father more than two years ago pleaded guilty and was sentenced to decades in prison Monday morning.

Zachary Thomas Blanchard, 18, was charged in the shooting death of his father, 36-year-old Robert J. Blanchard, at his home in Greene County in 2014.

Blanchard pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was immediately sentenced to 30 years in prison.

He had originally been charged with first-degree murder, but that charge was amended as part of the plea agreement.

Blanchard and three other teens fled to South Carolina, where they were taken into custody, following the shooting.

The other teens’ cases were handled in Juvenile Court.
