MANCHESTER, Tenn. (WKRN) – Coffee County deputies arrested a man who is suspected of claiming to be a clown and threatening children.
George Hoppe, 64, was arrested and charged with stalking. Hoppe was arrested after Coffee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lucky Knott said a man called the Coffee County Communications Center’s non-emergency line and identified himself as “the clown who has been threatening children.”
Knott said the man became lewd and told the dispatcher he was going to harm children. She said the man also allegedly told her that he would kidnap her and children, cut their ears off and conduct other lewd acts. Since the call came through the non-emergency line, it was not traceable.
The man called back a second time and told another dispatcher that he was going to be waiting and would kidnap her. The dispatcher asked where the man was and he said he was at an address on Commodore Drive. Deputies responded to the area where they found an empty lot.
Deputies then listened to the recordings and one of the officers thought he recognized the voice. Authorities then went to Hoppe’s home and obtained the man’s cell phone number and called communications from his phone. They had the man speak with dispatchers who claimed it was the same voice and laugh they had heard in the previous calls.
Hoppe’s bond was set at $100,000. He will appear in court on October 24, 2016.
