Tri-Cities food pantries receive help as part of ‘Hunger Action Month’

ELIZABETHTON, TN (WJHL)- Assistance Resource Ministries (ARM) in Elizabethton is getting a facelift. The organization is the recipient of a $5,000 grant from Food Lion that is administered through Second Harvest Food Bank. Those three agencies came together on Friday as part of food lion’s “Great Pantry Makeover” project where area food lion workers will help remodel and stock more than 30 food pantries in 30 days.arm2

Food Lion Talent Development Specialist Doug Hulshult said, “I love that this is hunger action month and not hunger awareness month, awareness is something that we need, but we need to take action and that’s what all three of these entities coming together have made happen so it’s really exciting.”

“We don’t want folks to have to choose between do I buy gas, do I pay my rent, or what do I do? We don’t want folks to have to make that choice so we want to help provide that food so that they can get what they need,” Hulshult said.

ARM was the twenty-third pantry this month to receive help from Food Lion and the second in our region. The first was at Ecumenical Faith in Action in Abingdon, Virginia on Tuesday.
