Southwest Virginia man charged with murder after father’s body found in family cemetery

BUCHANAN COUNTY, VA (WJHL) – Deputies in Buchanan County, VA arrested a man who allegedly killed his father. The arrest comes nearly a month after the man’s body was discovered in a family cemetery in Leemaster.

Deputies say evidence collected at the scene led to his 31-year-old son.

William Ray Hagy was arrested on Thursday in connection to the murder of his father, John Victor Hagy, Jr. William Hagy faces charges of first-degree murder and use of firearm during the commission of felony.

John Hagy Jr.’s body was found on August 26 in a family cemetery. A medical examiner determined that his cause of death was from gunshot wounds.

William Ray Hagy is being held without bond at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority – Haysi facility.

The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office and Virginia State Police are investigating.
