CARTER COUNTY, TN (WJHL)- A busy carter county roadway is gaining a new name. On Friday, Tri-Cities representatives, senators, and mayors gathered to designate a portion of state route 91 as the Ralph and Rondal Cole Memorial Highway.
The dedication ceremony is a way to honor former Elizabethton attorney Rondal Cole and his brother, previous Tennessee Representative, Ralph Cole.
State Representative John Holsclaw said, “To me it’s just a small way to recognize their legacy and give appreciation for someone who has done great things for the community.”
“It looks small but actually everyone that drives up and down this road will see that name and hopefully they can reflect on something good or something that he did for them,” he said.
As a state representative, Ralph Cole secured funding for roadways in carter county especially along this stretch of highway 91 which is local leaders saw it as fitting for the road to bear his name.
