SEVIERVILLE (WATE) – An East Tennessee restaurant was destroyed after an early morning fire.
Firefighters said the fire started around 1:00 a.m. Wednesday at Fat Tony’s Roadhouse at 2657 Newport Highway in Sevierville.
Nathaniel Mitchell with the Sevier County Volunteer Fire Department says the fire started inside the kitchen, but they’re still unsure what caused the fire.
The owner of Fat Tony’s Roadhouse said he is devastated by the loss. He said he envisioned himself retiring from the restaurant.
Luckily, no one was inside the building when the fire started and crews were able to contain the fire.
But officials say the building is a total loss.
Carolyn Williamson, who owns the Chubby’s Deli right next door, said the fire was frightening. Williamson said she hates this happened especially since business was booming at the roadhouse.
“We didn’t know if it was our business or somebody else’s. It was very scary. … My husband jumps up and runs out here and we find out it’s Fat Tony’s burning down and not ours,” said Williamson.
“He’s put a lot of effort and money into making a business and you see how fast it just goes. So, its sad,” said Williamson. “He went in and remodeled the whole place, put a bar up stairs, I mean it was really nice.”
