BLOUNTVILLE, TN -The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office to educate parents and caregivers during Child Passenger Safety Week, taking place Sept. 18-24.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, car crashes are a leading cause of death for children 1 to 13 years old. Many deaths and injuries can be prevented by proper use of car seats, boosters and seat belts.
In an effort to reduce unnecessary child deaths from improper safety seats, the Sheriff’s office will be providing free car-seat checks at every elementary school in Sullivan County starting at 2:00 p.m.
Officers will be at the schools to check car seats, educate parents about proper installation, as well as provide educational information about how to keep children safe while in a vehicle.
