HAWKINS COUNTY, TN (WJHL)- A pet pig that recently escaped from a Mount Carmel home has drawn a lot of attention over the past few days, as law enforcement and local officials have spent hours trying to track it down.

As of Tuesday night the pig was still on the run, after it escaped from the back porch of a home in the Hammond Estates area of Mount Carmel.

On day two of the search, we found complete strangers were joining in on the search.

Denise Gross and her family have 12 pigs of their own in Bluff City.

Gross said when she heard about a pig on the loose in Hawkins County, she knew she had to do something.

“It was a gut feeling, like I said I’ve been in their shoes, I know what its like and they are going to need all the help they can get,” Gross said.

As they closed in on the pig Tuesday, Joe Tatham said he got close, but couldn’t quite capture it.

“Whenever I was getting right there, and I went underneath my arms to grab her legs, that’s when she slid out like soap,” Tatham said.

Tatham said they plan to head back out to Mount Carmel again Wednesday to try to help the pig find its way back home.

Police said they are also resuming their search Wednesday morning.
