BRISTOL, TN (WJHL) – A new entertainment venue could soon be in the works for Bristol, TN.
About a year ago, Bristol Tennessee leaders began looking at the possibility of building a convention center.
Bristol City Council members voted to have a feasibility study was conducted. That study revealed that the city didn’t need a convention center, but could use an entertainment venue with a seating capacity of 7,000.
Bristol Tennessee Vice Mayor Jack Young told News Channel 11, the city is interested in this type of project.
However, Young said the city is not interested in taking the lead and would prefer a public private partnership, similar to the role the city played in supporting the Pinnacle shopping center.
Young said with the success of annual events like Rhythm and Roots, and recent events like Battle at Bristol, city leaders want the crowds to keep coming.
“One of those huge opportunities that we’re capitalizing on is entertainment, being able to have all kinds of folks come to the area,” said Young.
Young said nothing is finalized and the city is still in the discussion phase.
Bristol Motor Speedway took part in the initial study and at last check, BMS was interested in finding out more about the entertainment needs of the city.
