JONESBOROUGH, TN (WJHL) – In honor of Constitution week, history lovers in Tennessee’s oldest town gathered for a ceremony that ended with a ring.

Bells rang out at the historic, Oak Hill School in Jonesborough for the third annual bell ringing ceremony.

Organized by the State of Franklin chapter of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution. This tradition of celebrating the Constitution started in 1955. The program included theatrical performances, a presentation of colors and chorus.

“What we like to do is come out and have people enjoy their history, it needs to be living history, it needs to be fun not to make light of anything that happened but to make it participatory and not just a dry page,” Carol Redmond from the State chapter said.

If you’re interested in taking part in the ceremony next year, reach out to the State of Franklin chapter of the DAR.
