BOONE, NC- A fast start in the first half for No. 25 Miami doomed Appalachian State, as the Mountaineers fell 45-10 Saturday afternoon at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
The Hurricanes scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and never looked back. Miami’s offense totaled over 500 yards of offense while holding App State to just 241 yards.
Appalachian did have a chance to swing the momentum early in the second half. When Miami was threatening to score, John Law picked off a Brad Kaaya pass at the goalline for 60 yards. On the ensuing drive, Taylor Lamb found a wide-open Barrett Burns for a 24-yd touchdown pass and cut the lead to 24-10. The Hurricanes, however, scored two more touchdowns to put the game out of reach.
Jalin Moore rushed for a season-high 89 yards on 23 carries to lead App State in rushing. Burns hauled in a team-best four catches for 61 yards and a score. Eric Boggs led the team with 10 stops, his third-straight game with at least 10 tackles.
Saturday’s attendance of 34,658 fans at The Rock sets a new record at Kidd Brewer Stadium, smashing the previous record when App State hosted Elon on Oct. 9th, 2010 with 31,531 fans in attendance.
Appalchian will look to bounce back week in the final non-conference game of the season at Akron. Kickoff is schedule for 3:30 p.m. on American Sports Network.
