Tennessee man accused of threatening to murder U.S. officials

MURFREESBORO, TN (WKRN) – A Murfreesboro man was arrested by FBI agents Friday morning on charges of threatening to murder a United States official.

Keahiokahouna Stewart, 36, also faces charges for transmitting in interstate commerce, a communication containing a threat.

According to a criminal complaint, Stewart sent threatening emails and posted threatening videos to Instagram accounts he created between August and September of this year.

The complaint says Stewart indicates he will fly from Nashville to Honolulu on Nov. 1 with the intent of shooting people at the courthouse.

His alleged targets were U.S. Senator Mazie Hirono, who represents the State of Hawaii, and Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, who represents the 2nd District for the State of Hawaii.

A press release says the complaint notes Stewart sent a series of “grievances” to various federal officials and departments, including Sen. Hirono and Gabbard, asking about his own social security number.

“Stewart falsely believed that his SSN had been duplicated and issued to a fellow soldier he met while stationed at Camp Stanley in Korea in 2002,” says U.S. Attorney David Rivera.

“In subsequent correspondence to the Social Security Administration and Department of Defense, Stewart demands he be awarded 100 percent disability and $50 billion,” Rivera continues.

Stewart is accused of then visiting Sen. Hirono’s office in Washington DC in May 2015, which resulted in the Capitol Police being called.

Stewart allegedly continued to post comments about the issue and display himself with firearms thereafter on both Facebook and Instagram.

“In an Instagram video posted by Stewart on September 8, 2016, he states that he is flying to Honolulu on November 1, 2016, and will be traveling with an AR-15 and two handguns. Stewart further states that he has already shipped a silencer for one of the handguns and that it is stored in a garage in Waianae, Hawaii,” the press release notes.

Stewart had, in fact, purchased an airline ticket for that trip, investigators learned.

This case is being investigated by the FBI and the United States Capitol Police.
