July trial date set for men accused of killing Zaevion Dobson

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The two men accused of killing Knoxville teen Zaevion Dobson, who was shot while shielding two girls from gunfire, appeared in court Friday.

During Richard Williams and Christopher Bassett’s court appearance, a judge decided the men will go to trial July 10, 2017.

As of right now, they will be tried to together.

Both men are charged with murder.

Zaevion Dobson’s mother was in court Friday and she said she plans to be there every step of the legal process.

“He will always be in my heart and my soul and I’m going to fight for him the best way I can, the best way I know how. Justice will be served,” Zenobia Dobson said.

Basset and Williams are scheduled to be back in court November 4 for a status hearing.

Shortly after he was killed, Zaevion was praised by President Barack Obama as a hero.
