Tractor trailer driver dies in crash involving multiple tractor trailers on Interstate 77 in Virginia

CARROLL COUNTY, VA – Virginia state troopers are investigating chain reaction crash involving multiple tractor trailers that resulted in a fatality.

The crash happened Wednesday afternoon around 3:55 p.m. on Interstate 77 at the 22 mile marker.

According to Virginia State Police, a tractor-trailer was traveling north on Interstate 77 when it was rear-ended by another northbound tractor-trailer. The impact of that crash caused the first tractor-trailer to strike two other tractor-trailers traveling north on I-77.

A VSP spokesperson says the driver of the first tractor-trailer, Harry A. Rhodes, 43, of Miami Gardens, Fla., was ejected from his vehicle in the course of the chain-reaction crash.

He died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
