Four wanted Carter County suspects arrested in Florida

CARTER COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – Carter County deputies say authorities in Florida aided in capturing four wanted people from the Northeast Tennessee region.

Earlier in the year on July 22, the Carter County Sheriff’s Office conducted a drug-round up  – which resulted in 18 arrests. But deputies were not able to locate three people.

Deputies later learned that Jonathan Beam, 42 of Newland, NC, James Townson, 42 of Roan Mountain, and Elsie Johnson, 46 of Roan Mountain, fled to Florida.

The three were wanted on multiple counts of sale of Schedule II narcotics and other drug related charges.

The trio were tracked to Flagler County, FL where they were staying with, Simon Clawson, another fugitive from Carter County.

The Carter County Sheriff’s Office says Clawson fled to Florida to avoid arrest about three years ago. Clawson is wanted on several warrants including failure to appear and violation of probation.

After authorities learned of their whereabouts, the four suspects were arrested in Flagler County, FL.  Then on Monday morning, they were extradited to Carter County and booked into the county jail.
