BLUFF CITY, TN (WJHL) – This week, Bluff City leaders say they are expecting to receive the equipment needed to fix the city’s ongoing sewer problems.
A civil engineer who is working on the project told News Channel 11, his team expects to receive the new sewer pump this week.
Back in December, News Channel 11’s news team was the first to bring you this story about Bluff City’s sewer overflowing into several resident’s backyards and then into Boone Lake.
Since then, residents have reported several more sewer overflows.
Mattern and Craig Civil Engineer David Wilson said heavy rainfall contributes greatly to the sewer overflows and engineers are hoping for less rain over the next few months.
Once the pump arrives, Wilson said workers will immediately begin the installation process.
“We still have a substantial completion date…10th of November if I’m not mistaken, so we would like to keep that date in case we have any problems that we don’t foresee at this time,” said Wilson.
Wilson said installing the pump is only the first phase of the project.
“We do have a second phase of the project…which will be replacing some of these old sewers that contribute to this problem and also water lines…the USDA folks are currently reviewing those plans,” said Wilson.
Wilson said they do not have a timeline yet for the second phase.
Residents nearby told News Channel 11, they hope the overflows stop in the mean time.
