Security for Food City Bucs at Bristol game to be similar to Battle at Bristol

BRISTOL (WJHL) – Now that the Battle at Bristol is finished, Bristol Motor Speedway staff members are now preparing for the Food City Bucs at Bristol football game happening Saturday, where the East Tennessee State University Buccaneers will face the Western Carolina Catamounts at the World’s Fastest Half-Mile.

While the Battle at Bristol game was definitely one for the books, some fans did have concerns.

For Courtney Kliman, it was security.

“They did not check my bag,” Kliman said. “They didn’t check anybody’s belongings around me and that kind of made me wary.”

BMS officials said they made some modifications to get people through the gates quicker, but said that everyone went through a security checkpoint.

And while the Bucs at Bristol game won’t be nearly as big as the Battle at Bristol, BMS officials said security will be about the same.

“One side of a gate could be a little fuller than another and scanning in, so we’re going to make sure people are distributed equally,” Logan McCabe, BMS vice president of Consumer Group, said.

“We’ll have less people coming through the gates, obviously, therefore the time will be a little quicker,” McCabe said.

As for the list of prohibited items for the Battle at Bristol, those will also remain the same for this week’s game.

Only clear plastic bags will be allowed inside the stadium, and once you’re inside the The Last Great Colosseum, you’re in.

“If you don’t have a ticket to the Food City Bucs at Bristol, you can still go to the parking lot and you can hangout with your buddies,” McCabe said.

The parking lots are open for tailgaters starting at 8 a.m. and gates open at 11:30 a.m. for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
