JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – Renovations to an old tobacco warehouse in Johnson City are almost complete.
The first tenants of the newly renovated space, Olson’s Martial Arts Academy, is set to move in by the end of the week.
“One of the things for us was we needed a lot of space and a lot of parking. And that was one of things that as we were driving around downtown looking we thought well if somebody else has a vision along with us we can make this happen,” said Olson’s Martial Arts Academy Co-Owner Amanda Olson.
According to Phillip Cox, Mitch Cox Development Partner, the building (located between S. Roan St. and Spring St.) was built back in 1931.
Cox said construction workers had to level the floors, put in a new HVAC system, and a new roof.
The Co- Owner of Little Hoot Boutique and the Nest, Jessica Moore said she is also moving her businesses to the building and is excited about the location.
“To be right there in the middle of it and watch this grow, watch this town that we fell in love with 10 years ago just become this, and to be in the middle of it is amazing,” said Moore.
Moore and Olson told News Channel 11, they hope they can tap into the growing number of visitors who are choosing to shop and eat downtown.
