Feeding America begins Great American Milk Drive

JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – Feeding America announced the beginning of the ‘Great American Milk Drive’ Tuesday afternoon at Price Less Foods in Johnson City.

For the month of September, you can visit any participating Price Less Foods or Pay Less IGA in East Tennessee to donate money toward a gallon of milk for local food bank clients.

Milk is rarely donated because of its short shelf life and is one of the most requested items at food banks.

Director of Marketing for the Southeast United Dairy Industry Association Mark Farmer said, “It’s hard to manage fresh milk in food banks because of the shelf life, because of the refrigeration space. So this program was developed specifically because of those issues.”

The Great American Milk Drive will provide vouchers for clients so that they can buy milk fresh from the store.

You can also donate on www.milklife.com/give or by texting “MILK” to 27722.
