Wise Co. deputies charge 2 men after 12-year-old found driving vehicle

WISE COUNTY, VA (WJHL) – Wise County Sheriff’s Office deputies charged two men after they found a 12-year-old girl driving a vehicle during a traffic checking detail on Monday.

According to the release, deputies were conducting the traffic check on Route 72 in Coeburn, Va. when they saw a vehicle stopped about 15 yards away.

When deputies investigated, they found a 12-year-old girl driving the vehicle. Two men were with her — Jason Todd Kennedy, 52, of Wise, Va., and Christopher Todd Clark, 50, of Coeburn, Va. — and appeared to be intoxicated.

After an investigation, deputies charged Kennedy with felony child endangerment, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, allowing a person without a license to drive, public intoxication and inhaling a noxious chemical.

Clark was charged with felony child endangerment, contributing to the delinquency of minor, allowing a person without a license to drive, public intoxication, inhaling noxious chemical, possession of a schedule II and schedule IV drug.

Kennedy and Clark were taken to the Southwest Regional Jail in Duffield, Va., where they were being held without bond.

The 12-year-old girl was released to her mother.
