USOC gives Ryan Lochte 10-month ban from swimming

(KRON) — United States swimmer Ryan Lochte will be suspended from his sport for 10 months, and he will not be allowed to participate in the 2017 World Championships.

That is what a source close to the discipline process is telling CNN.

The punishment is the result of his involvement in a gas station incident in Rio de Janeiro during the Olympics.

Lochte was accused of vandalizing property in the gas station bathroom then lying about what happened.

It only became public after he reported being robbed there, a claim police in Rio found to be false.

The scandal lead to Lochte losing several endorsement deals.

The United States Olympic committee said it had nothing to report on a possible suspension for Lochte.

U.S. Swimming, the national governing body for the sport, did not respond to CNN’s request for comment.
