BRISTOL, TN – Salvation Army locations in each of the Tri-Cities were honored Thursday for their hunger relief efforts.
The Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee presented the awards, after volunteers served lunch and the mayor read a proclamation from the city.
Organizers said they chose today, Hunger Action Day, to present the Hunger Action Awards, but it is also Hunger Action Month — a month aimed at trying to spread awareness and get the community involved.
“Individuals need food assistance every day, so we’re fighting hunger year long every day, and we need help from the community to really end hunger and make sure that everyone has access to food,” said Rhonda Chafin, Executive Director of Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Tennessee.
