State Street closes for Battle at Bristol festivities

BRISTOL, TN/VA (WJHL) – The Bristol Chamber Commerce says State Street will close at 2:00 p.m. as merchants move out into the sidewalks of downtown Bristol.

In addition, organizers will set up a stage in front of the Birthplace of Country Music office and various vendors will set up tents, displays, and other attractions.

Tonight, the iconic Bristol sign will take on a new look as it lit up to the colors  Tennessee Volunteers orange and Virginia Tech maroon. News Channel will live stream the unveiling right here on WJHL.com. Please check back for details. http://wjhl.com/live.

State Street will reopen this Friday, September 9 at 7:00 p.m.

The following is a schedule of events for the Battle on the State Line Kickoff:

September 8

5:30-9:30 p.m. – Brewfest at Bristol at the Downtown Center – this is a ticketed event coordinated by Hexagon Brewing from Knoxville. Visit www.BrewfestatBristol.com for info and tickets.

6 p.m. – Yard Games (corn hole, jinga, human size foosball, connect four, BMS souvenir trailers, Food City vendors, merchants move out onto sidewalks, photo booth, cell phone charging stations, Selfie Spots, Danny Wilson – Battle at Bristol poster signing,  etc.)

6-6:45 p.m. – Brothers of the Highway on the Food City stage

7-8:15 p.m. – James Meadows on the Food City stage

7 p.m. – Payton Miller painting “The Rock” on State Street

8:30-9:15 p.m. – Folk Soul Revival on the Food City stage

9:15 p.m. – Bristol Sign Program.  The historic Bristol Sign is lit up to Tennessee Volunteers (orange) and Virginia Tech (maroon)

9:45-10:30 p.m. – Folk Soul Revival on the Food City stage

10:30 p.m. – Tailgate continues on State Street at merchant businesses and restaurants – several restaurants and bars will feature live music.


The following is a list of events and performers for the Battle on the State Line Pep Rally:

September 9:

11-11:45 a.m. – Brothers of the Highway

Noon-12:45 p.m. – SPANK

Noon-2:00 p.m. – Former TN & VT autographs

12:45-1 p.m. – Sponsors – announcements from stage

1-1:45 p.m. – SPANK

2-3 p.m. – SPORTS DESK

3-4  p.m. – UT/VT Mascots, Spirit Squads from each school – may also travel from main stage area down towards Piedmont/6th Street
