JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said a Carter County woman turned herself in Wednesday after a Carter County grand jury returned indictments charging her with multiple counts of theft.
According to a TBI news release, TBI agents obtained indictments for Emilee Elise Howard, 31, of Roan Mountain, who is accused of embezzling money from an attorney’s office where she worked.
Back in February, District Attorney General Tony Clark requested TBI Special Agents and Elizabethton Police Department start investigating Howard.
During the investigation, agents learned that Howard, an administrative assistant for attorney David Crockett, stole more than $300,000 from the law office over a five-year period.
Howard is no employed at the law office.
A grand jury returned indictments charging Howard with one count of theft over $250,000, two counts of theft over $10,000 and one count of theft over $1,000.
According to the release, Howard was booked into the Carter County Jail and was being held on $50,000 bond.
