Shooting victim crashes car into Nashville bus, dies

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Police say a man has died after he was shot and crashed into a bus in east Nashville.

Metro police said in a statement that 57-year-old Mark Matlock died after hitting a Metro Transit Authority bus Tuesday night near the Shelby Park Community Center.

His passenger, 32-year-old Angel Pendred, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Metro police spokesman Don Aaron says Matlock was injured during a shootout with a man and woman he and Pendred met in a parking lot around 5 p.m.

Matlock and Pendred sped off.

It’s unclear what may have led to the shootout.

Aaron says detectives are pursuing strong leads in the case.

Several people were on the bus at the time of the crash. None of them were hurt.
