TBI releases name of man killed in officer-involved shooting in Gray, TN

WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN (WJHL) – An investigation is underway into an officer-involved shooting in Gray that left a man dead.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Public Information Officer Leslie Earhart told News Channel 11  just before 7 p.m. Tuesday night Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call about a disturbance at a home on Moody Lane in Gray.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a man armed with a weapon. Earhart identified that man as Larry Grant Whitehead, 70.  The TBI didn’t release where Whitehead lived.

“A confrontation occurred which resulted in the officers firing shots at Whitehead. He was pronounced dead at the scene,” said Earhart.

A Washington County TN Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said the three deputies are on paid administrative leave.   The department did not release the names of the deputies Wednesday afternoon.

TBI’s policy in an office- involved shooting investigation, ‘we do not release identifying information concerning the officers involved in the incident.’
