KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after an inmate was found hanging in his cell shortly before his release.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports Ryan Bolton had been jailed on a public intoxication charge on Saturday.
Records show Bolton was talking to a corrections officer at 10:22 a.m. on Monday and was discovered hanging about 30 minutes later during a cell check. Bolton was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and pronounced dead at 11:35 a.m.
According to the sheriff’s office, Bolton had shown no signs of depression or indications he would harm himself. He also did not leave a note. Detectives are investigating the death as a suicide.
