BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) – Police are searching for an armed woman who entered a convenience store near Indiana University , prompting the school to issue an emergency alert and go on lock down.
University officials issued the alert early Friday, calling for people on campus to take shelter and lock themselves indoors. The school later said the threat was no longer imminent and campus resumed normal routines.
IU spokeswoman Margie Smith-Simmons says Bloomington police are looking for the woman, who authorities said entered a Village Pantry with a handgun then fled.
The university sent the original alert because that store is near campus, where about 30,000 students begin classes on Monday.
The search for the armed woman is still ongoing at this time.
