BRISTOL, VA (WJHL) – Local organizations gathered in Cumberland Square Park in Bristol, VA to raise money and awareness for a life saving drug.
Co-organizer, Rhonda Coffey wants to purchase 100 kits of Naloxone or Narcan for Bristol police and fire departments. The drug is an auto-injection device used to reverse the effects of a drug overdose. Coffey told News Channel 11 why today’s event was close to her heart.
“My son died from an overdose last July and through some research, my son, my other son, Chris found out that the Bristol, Virginia police department and fire department wanted to have this drug and they did not,” Coffey said.
Mountain States Health Alliance, High Point and Woodmen Life were also out there supporting the cause. They hope to raise $10,000.
